Lauren, your post reached me at a personal level.
I lived in Miami, including the Little Haiti neighborhood (near Bishop Curly High School, when it was still there). I am familiar with Liberty City, Lemon City, and Overtown. Each of these neighborhoods has been affected by larger African diaspora. Within this country we refer to it as “gentrification” because black people are pushed out of neighborhoods and forced to live somewhere else.
Railroads and freeways often signal the beginning of gentrification. I’ll stop there, to se see if we are on the same page, and to learn more about your experience with what I’ve described.
I’m sure you know who this person is, yes?
